Gustav Mahler's Composing Hut

Highlight • Monument

In 1894 Gustav Mahler had this composing house built on the banks of the Attersee. Large parts of the Second and the entire Third Symphony were written here.

Today the building serves as a memorial and is located in the closed area of a campsite. Admission is free, the bowl is available at Gasthof Föttinger. From 1.11. until April 20 a telephone registration is required.

There are several parking options around Attersee and Attergau. One of them is the Drei Tannen car park, which is located in Schörfling am Attersee. It is a free car park and is located near the Kammer train station.

The Attersee enchants with its blue water, over which you can let your gaze wander while cycling. Especially in the hot summer months, you want to jump into the clear water and cool off.

You can do this easily at the Attersee, because there are many public bathing areas around the lake that you can use for free. And if you are looking for the ambience of an outdoor pool, you can go to one of the beach baths on the Attersee.

Head south when you spend your holiday in Unterach am Attersee. The village at the southern end of Lake Attersee used to be called "Little Venice". Today Unterach am Attersee impresses with a wonderful mixture of the imposing villas from the turn of the century and its village character.

In summer, there are many cyclists and also many drivers on the main road around Lake Attersee. The level of mutual acceptance sometimes leaves something to be desired. It is best to cycle early in the morning or outside of rush hour. Between Seewalchen and Nussdorf, you can also take the R2 cycle path. There is no traffic there and the view is much better.

The village of Attersee am Attersee is known, among other things, for the early historic pile dwellings that were built directly on the lake in the Neolithic Age. Although these can no longer be visited today, since the settlements were flooded by the lake in the past, an informative pavilion has been built on the lake promenade, which tells the story of the pile dwellings. Those who are less interested in archeology and more interested in bathing fun will get their money's worth in the spacious Sprinzensteinpark outdoor bathing area. There is even an adventure pool with a water slide that leads directly into the lake.
