Highlight • Structure

The hike is really fun and the elevation profile is quite feasible - but overall, everything else is easy. At the beginning it goes through criss-cross deadwood, which requires a lot of climbing skills. Nothing for awkward hikers !!!

Portree Bay Foreshore

Highlight • Beach

The walk along the marshes of Portree bay is very scenic and opens up unexpected views of the Old Man of Storr and over to Tianavaig and into the Cuillins. The trail is tidal and a few places would be impassable during high tide. You will hear the cars from the road during the season, but other than that this is still a quiet edge of Portree that you likely won't have to share with too many others.

Not quite trusting the weather today with the thunderstorms in the air, I went bluebell hunting in the woodlands around Portree. Took the little trail along the river on the way back into Portree which gives such a different experience looking over the salt marshes and up to the Old Man of Storr. Very nice little loop this!
Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to continue walking along the river on the way back because you would have had to go through the water and we didn't know whether we would have gotten any further after the procedure. We then went back up and walked quite a bit directly along the road, which wasn't great, but otherwise it was a …

What was planned as a short walk in low shoes and without hiking poles turned into an adventurous hike with stream crossings, boggy and alternating rocky sections, and finally, through the thicket to the road in the rain, with two fence crossings that I managed to overcome with great athleticism. What a circus! I saw salmon leaping by the river. …
