Old Steindeich Lighthouse Kollmar

The old Steindeich lighthouse in Kollmar was built in 1965 and was in operation until 1995. As a so-called cross-brand fire, it was used by shipping as a brand to change direction, in which different-colored sectors were broadcast. When the light color changed, the course had to be changed in the direction of another beacon. In addition to its function as a beacon, the tower was also a radar system for traffic monitoring. It was part of a whole chain of radar systems between the then lightship "Elbe 2" in the mouth of the Elbe into the North Sea and Hamburg, which, when it was built in 1965, formed the longest radar chain in the world at 140 kilometers. Today the tower is used as a private apartment.
