A tough rocky climb to this gate.

Blanchland Moor

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

An ancient road (there are so many around here), this one originally ran from Blanchland to Hexham. It's very pretty, and the going's good and firm.

It's better tackled as a climb, from south to north; it's an easy way to gain height (there are more fun singletrack options for descending nearby).

Sidley Forest Singletrack

Highlight • Forest

One of the many excellent tracks in the area. Rideable on a gravel bike, but more fun on a mountain bike.

Carrier's Way Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Rumoured to have existed since prehistory, the Carrier's Way was used by pack pony drivers (carriers) transporting smelted lead to the River Tyne during the 17th century.

Their industry gave us this wonderful little trail across Burntshieldhaugh Fell.

Beware this bridge leads to Bale Hill a 2.5km climb.

Buckshott Fell and Edmondbyers Common Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

Something of a long trail for a Highlight, this - but it's totally fabulous. The trail along the tops here (Buckshott Fell, Chop Hardy and Edmondbyers Common) is an old lead mining route.

Run from east to west it's broadly downhill single and doubletrack with glorious views. It's a total dream of a trail, with the odd ford to keep you interested and your toes nicely moist.
