Highlight • Parking

Great car park to base yourself from for local adventures. £2 for short stay or just £5 for all day. We parked out campervan overnight at the car park at the far end of the dam and there are public toilets open 24/7.

Kielder Dam and Reservoir

The dam at the eastern end of Kielder reservoir is a great spot for a stop and photo opp.
It's on many routes including the 26 mile multi user Lakeside Way trail.
The dam itself was built between 1975 and 1981 and holds back the largest artificial lake in the UK by capacity.

Located within the lakeside setting of Kielder Water, the centre contains one of the largest collections of birds of prey in the North of England, including eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures and owls.

The visitor centre had views of the reservoir and the facilities are open to both day visitors and onsite guests. Rhe onsite shop is open 24hrs a day, seven days week where you can purchase fresh produce, everyday essentials.

Kielder Water

Highlight • Trail

Kielder Water is the centrepiece of Kielder Forest and is the largest human-made lake in Northern Europe. The full lakeside trail is 26 miles (41.8 km) long and is accessible to walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users.

Awaiting discovery on the trails around its shores is a plethora of wildlife. Rare species, such as red squirrels, water voles and ospreys, are just some of the treats that lie in wait.

We were so grateful for some shade beside the water here on such a hot sunny day! Really peaceful and there’s an obvious path cut into the grass from the main walking route to reach the waterside.

The tearoom is dog-, boat-, and bike-friendly, has free Wi-Fi, and private parking. Located close to Kielder Water and the Reivers Route, it's the perfect spot to unwind with a cappuccino and a good story.
