Aysgarth village

Highlight • Settlement

Nestled in delightful Wensleydale, Aysgarth is a classic Yorkshire Dales village. There's good food at the George & Dragon and the fancier Aysgarth Falls Hotel, as well as the option of Hamilton's Tearoom.

The village is most famous for the scenic Aysgarth Falls, where the River Ure cascades over several limestone steps. Down the years, the falls have attracted the likes of Wordsworth, Ruskin and Turner, as well as featuring in the classic Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves film.

Located in the village of West Burton, Cauldron Falls are available for enjoyment by just about anyone - it's an easy walk right from the village. It is a beautiful spot - it was, in fact, one of the spots painted by Turner on his travels in the Dales.

Aysgarth Falls

Highlight • Natural Monument

The falls can get really busy with people mooching. Try and avoid weekends and holidays if this bothers you. Would recommend starting a walk away from the falls and adding them to the walk , then you can utilise the cafe

Good easy walk to Aysgarth Upper falls and then along to the next falls on the "other" side of the river. Lost the route slightly on the last quarter to evade cows but enjoyed a lovely unexpected treat right at the end of the walk. Then a pint!!
