Craven Way Bridleway

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Part of the ‘Dales High Way’, Craven Way is a bridleway linking the Ribbledale Viaduct with the village of Dent. Expect a rough ride with stunning views, and be prepared to do a lot of pushing. You’ll bump into plenty of hikers too.

Dyke Hall Lane

Highlight • Trail

Beautiful quiet road for cycling just outside Dent. It links up to Craven Way, a rough bridleway taking you to Ribblesworth Viaduct.

Dent Village

Highlight • Settlement

A real must-visit village with cobbled streets, little lumps and gorgeous pastel-coloured houses. On clear days you can see as far as the sea in on direction and towards the Lake District in the other (if it's a clear winter day you might get snow-capped peaks in your line of sight). There's a train station here that's on the Settle-Carlisle line and it's the highest station in England - a bit out of town though. The train line goes over the two huge viaducts (Arten Gill and Dent Head), which were both built using massive blocks of Dent ‘marble’ from local quarries that are now out of use.

Loads of history here (to do with knitting), scattered farms, three pubs and a lot of charm.

Bridleway gets a little frisky for quite a while - expect to get a little trot on! Especially for dork roadies on Gravel Bikes with 42mm tyres on (like me)

Dent Head Viaduct

Highlight • Historical Site

A picturesque valley in the Yorkshire Dales, Dentdale runs from Dent Head along the River Dee. Dentdale has many interesting stones and rocks such as Limestone and Silurian and Ordovician rocks. In the upper part of the dale, the Upper Dentdale Cave System runs 2 miles (3.2 km) beneath the valley floor. The area is also rich in marble; Dent Marble, a highly polished Black Limestone, was mined here from 1760 until 1909.

Today, the area is popular with hikers and cyclists who come to explore the area's beauty. There are over 200 listed buildings including railway viaducts, barns, farmhouses, and even a telephone box.
