Sandford on Thames dates back further than the Domesday Book of 1086. The name reflects the ford and crossing point of the river. The river meadows have also made farming rich in the area. Today it's a pretty village with a good pub by the river.

This perfect country pub is situated right on the banks of the River Thames and offers walkers a rest and refreshing drink or bite to eat in a cosy setting.

Radley College Boathouse

Highlight • Rest Area

The Radley College Boathouse and this stretch of the Thames is the training ground for some of those who go on to be GB athletes, representing the country in rowing. As you reach the boathouse, you might be lucky enough to see some rowers sprinting up and down the river. If not, you can still admire the boats out on the side.

Ancient Ash Grove, Radley Little Wood

Highlight • Natural Monument

Radley Little Wood is home to a grove of ash trees of national special interest. The large ancient ash trees have formed a large intricate “wood wide web” of soil fungi that connects them in an intimate network that allows the sharing of an enormous amount of information and goods.

You can find more information at Woodland Trust's Ancient Tree Inventory about these ancient ash trees, e.g. the largest of ash tree is a coppice measuring 6.23m at a height of 0.10m: tiny.cc/2ad5tz
