Prayer Cairns on Budleigh Pebble Beach

Highlight • Structure

Stumbled across a huge mound of stones on the beach, all sizes, some plain, some painted and majority of them with prayers written on them. I had sharpie in my bag, so wrote a prayer and placed it upon the pile. Never seen anything like this before, found it very touching that people still have faith in prayer. 🙏

Otter Estuary

Otter estuary is a tidal inlet where the River Otter meets the English Channel near Budleigh Salterton in Devon, South West England. It covers an area of 33 hectares and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its saltmarsh habitat and its Triassic sandstone rocks. It is also a Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ), which means it is protected for its marine wildlife and habitats. The estuary supports a range of plants and animals that are adapted to the changing conditions of salt and freshwater, such as glasswort, sea lavender, reed warbler, sedge warbler, redshank, curlew and red-breasted merganser. The estuary is also an important migratory route for fish such as European eel, Atlantic salmon, sea trout and shad. The estuary can be accessed by footpaths on either side, with viewing platforms, a bird hide and a car park nearby.

Budleigh Salterton Beach

Budleigh Salterton is a seaside town on the coast in East Devon, England. It lies within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. It has a population of 6,575 according to the 2012 census. It is situated near the mouth of the River Otter, where there is a nature reserve and a nudist beach. Budleigh Salterton has a 2.5 mile pebble beach, overlooked by stunning red sandstone cliffs and safe, clean bathing water. It is one of Devon’s most unspoilt and charming towns, containing many interesting shops and attractions. Some of the attractions include the Fairlynch Museum, a thatched marine cottage with exhibitions and costumes, the East Devon Golf Club, a scenic 18-hole course, and the Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club, one of the oldest and largest in the country. Budleigh Salterton also has a variety of sports, community and religious groups, as well as regular bus links with Exmouth and Sidmouth.
