Pont Briwet Bridge and Estuary

Highlight • Bridge

Pont Briwet is a road and railway bridge which crosses the River Dwyryd. Built in the 19th century by the Cambrian Railway Company, the bridge is a rare example of a Victorian-era wooden road and rail viaduct. As the bridge was deemed unsafe from 2013, a new bridge was built including a cycle lane.

Porthmadog Harbour Town

Highlight • Viewpoint

Porthmadog is simply a busy hub, a gateway to the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia National Park. It is a lovely harbour town with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. It also has a good range of shops and attractions including nearby Portmeirion, a narrow-gauge railway, a normal railway and guess what...an excellent hands-on railway museum!

Penrhyndeudraeth

Highlight • Settlement

Penrhyndeudraeth, which means 'the headland of two beaches' in Welsh, is a serene small town that's well located for hiking adventures in some of Northern Eryri's less frequented ranges. There are numerous accommodation options and amenities.

Its modern day tranquillity hides the fact that the town was once home to Europe's largest explosives factory. Having supplied both the coal mining industry and Allied forces during both world wars, operations ceased in 1995. The North Wales Wildlife Trust now look after the land where the works were, as nature reclaims this once industrial site.
