South Beach Dunes (Traeth y De), Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

Highlight • Natural

The footpath from Penally train station leads you past the rifle range and through the golf course to the south-end of Temby South beach. From here, you can admire the long sweep of sand down to the town, or it's a short walk up the steps to the stunning panoramic views of Caldey Island from Giltar Point.

Tenby South Beach

Highlight • Viewpoint

Tenby South Beach stretches for 1.6 miles along the coast, with soft sand dunes behind it. The beach is located between St Catherine's Island and the headland of Giltar Point. The area closest to the town of Tenby is the most popular part of the beach, but if you walk a little further to the eastern end you will find a less busy spot.
At low tide the beach joins Castle Beach to reveal a huge stretch of clean golden sand ideal for beach games and sand castles. At high tide there is still a large part of the beach left to enjoy. The sand here slopes gently into the sea, so swimming is safe and there are no rocks or deep ledges to avoid.

St Catherine's Island is a small limestone outcrop with lots of tidal caves. On top of the island is a fort that was built during the Napoleonic Wars. You can access the island for three hours either side of low tide.

View of Tenby Castle

Highlight • Historical Site

Built in the 12th century, only the tower survives of Tenby Castle these days. With views out to sea and across to St Catherine’s Island, it’s an atmospheric place to be.

Sergeants Lane and Tenby Brewery

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is a beautiful small lane, totally occupied by the Tenby Brewery. Rest here for a variety of their beers and a good snack. Even if you don't like beer, this small passage is a must see due to its cozy beauty. Busy during opening hours, though.

Five Arches Gate, Tenby

Highlight • Monument

The medieval town walls of Tenby are some of the best-preserved and most historically important town walls in the UK. The walls are listed Grade I as 'one of the most important surviving medieval city walls in Britain'.

The Five Arches is at the site of the West Gate (the only surviving gated entrance to the walled town).

From the Esplanade you have a beautiful view of the beach and the fort on St Catherine's Island.

The Esplanade, Tenby

Highlight • Viewpoint

Just like on our Belgian coast: walking on the dike past hotels and catering establishments, but many meters above the beach.
