Malteser Castle, Heitersheim

Highlight • Castle

Beautiful facility with a great garden. There are only a few nuns left in the monastery, which also has a small Maltese Order museum. Worth a short stop. Right next door are a Roman bath ruin and a beautiful playground.

Roman Park Heitersheim

Highlight • Historical Site

At the site of today's Roman Park was the Roman period, the lordly residence of a squire, a so-called villa urbana. It included a luxurious Mediterranean-style living area and an agricultural and craft sector. The dimensions of the 5.5-acre property are now marked in the area. Where the main Roman home stood, today's Roman Museum was built. In this museum are reconstructed parts of the house and many excavation finds to visit. Right next to the Roman Museum is the Villa Artis. It was modeled after one of the Roman agricultural buildings, the granary. The new building is today almost at the original location of the Roman memory. Villa artis houses the Café artis and an art and cultural center. In 2014, the Roman Park was added to the Roman playground.

The entire route is wonderful! Views and picturesque villages alternate and the vineyards exude a Provencal flair.

Picturesque Britzingen

Highlight • Settlement

The small town of Britzingen is worth a detour - perhaps the prettiest village between Staufen and Badenweiler.

Over the Schwärze

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Poorly used but excellently developed short slope. Ideal as a warm-up for either the ascent to the Sirnitz or up to the blue, alternatively to bring the cooled down legs after the departure of one of the mountains back to operating temperature.

Badenweiler – Sirnitz Pass

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

Meanwhile, the road is in good condition, unfortunately now also very busy on the WE. Still a beautiful pass followed by a rushing descent with a wonderful view of the Black Forest.

Kreuzweg Pass Summit

Highlight • Mountain Pass

Wonderful pass ride, from Badenweiler with an almost alpine difference in altitude and thanks to the rock faces at the roadside and the Sirnitzalm you sometimes actually feel like you are in the high mountains. At the moment (05/2020) the lower half of the Badenweiler route is in poor shape, the upper half is great, as is the descent to Neuenweg. Also very popular with the motorcycle group.

View of Münsterhalde

Highlight • Viewpoint

The route and the view are always worth a detour - however, the road is in very poor condition in sections and only partially enjoyable for the descent with the racing bike. The gradient is quite even, only at the very bottom in Münsterhalden for the first 150 meters of altitude a little crisp with a little over 12%.

Very wet and cold and brake failure made it interesting
At the end of my lap, Simon Geschke (Team Cofidis) came towards me at the exit of Münstertal.

Great final round. It really was four wonderful days here. Made you want more.
