Castles of Fiore

Highlight • Castle

Fiore is not a village like the others as it cannot be identified with a town but with a group of fortresses and castles scattered in the area between Todi and Izzalini. The Castle of Fiore Alto (belonged to the Guelph of the Atti family) is a ruined tower that is found along the road to Izzalini, but the most interesting castle is located on the road that leads from Fiore to Ponte Naia. Continuing on the same road you will also meet the Belforte Castle where there is also a B&B.

Castle and Village of Izzalini

Highlight • Castle

The Borgo di Izzalini Castle has this name because the ancient fortress on which it was built was occupied by some followers of the Ghibelline Ezzelino da Romano, remembered as the Living Satan, who was Podestà of Verona and son-in-law of Federico II having married his daughter in 1238 Wild.
The Castle overlooks a square square with its tower with bell tower and clock, but the door of the village is located in the back. A crack that allows the passage of a person is present in the facade of the tower and leads into the street inside the village. A particularity that is often overlooked. Inside there is a fountain with fresh water.

Morre Village and Scenic Viewpoint

Highlight • Settlement

iccolo village of very ancient origin, it seems that its name comes from the Moorish-mulberry trees, which abounded in the area, as silkworm breeding was widely practiced there. It was a villa built between 1147 and 1149 on Roman settlements. Included in the orbit of Todi, it had Benedictine and Camaldolese places of worship. To visit the church of S. Andrea and take advantage of the magnificent paths inside the chestnut woods.

Civitella del Lago is of Roman origin, as attested by Pliny the Younger. Perched like many other villages in the area, in a dominant position, in the Middle Ages it was a defensive stronghold of Todi. Ruled from the XII century. from the Fredi family, in the 16th century it passed under the Atti family who governed it in the following period. In 1810 it took the name of Civitella dei Pazzi, apparently due to a presence of the famous Florentine family, antagonist of the Medici. After the construction of the Corbara dam and the homonymous lake, it took the current name of Civitella del Lago. The panorama that can be enjoyed extends up to Mount Argentario. Worth seeing is the Ovo Pinto Museum which, based on the Easter peasant tradition, collects eggs painted by artists from all over the world.

View of Lago di Corbara Vineyards

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lake Corbara represents an artificial basin obtained through the construction of a dam on the course of the river Tiber near the town of Corbara (TR). This barrier structure, located about three kilometers from the confluence with the Paglia river, determines the accumulation of a water reserve of 207 million cubic meters inside the lake, which can reach a maximum depth of 51 metres. This body of water occupies a suggestive valley which opens up starting from the spectacular Forello gorges. It should be emphasized that Lake Corbara is integrated into the protected area of the Tiber River Park, a context in which it is possible to observe various species of birds, including herons, and to identify the presence of fallow deer and moufflons.

Forello Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The Forello gorges correspond to a narrow valley between Todi and Orvieto carved out by the Tiber river which crosses the ridge between Monte Peglia and the Amerini mountains. The Gorges are particular because they have a flat bottom (due to flooding) with lots of vegetation that changes color according to the seasons. The river bed is well designed as a channel. The Gorges form the heart of the Tiber River Park.
