But what makes it really essential is the work of one of these illustrious occupants, the writer François René de Chateaubriand. Alone and frightened, the young Chateaubriand hears at night the ghost of a cat and a wooden leg pacing the corridors and the stairs. He will be inspired by his childhood experience for the writing of his book "Memories from beyond the grave". Even today some members of the castle staff feel a presence.
