Old Buzenol Railway Station

Highlight • Monument

This station was located on the old railway line 155 which linked Marbehan to Ecouviez (F) via Virton.
It was decommissioned in 1938. The abolition of the line followed a good ten years later, in 1951.
It was converted into a nature center thanks to a professor from Ghent, Doctor Van Oye, a nature enthusiast, who rented the building to the SNCB.
In the 1960s, it developed to become the Center de Buzenol, an educational service of the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium, under the leadership of Edmond Fouss, promoter of Gaume heritage and founder of the Gaume Museum in Virton .
This project even gained momentum thanks to the former mayor of Ethe Elie Deworme in the years that followed. A new building was built between the old station and the Farm of Bâr to allow the accommodation of green classes.
Currently, this center is incorporated into the educational structure of the Ecole Normale de Virton.

Created in 1984, the Belgian Luxembourg Contemporary Art Center (CACLB) was born as part of a decentralization policy initiated by the Ministry of the French Community of Belgium.

It retained a “nomadic” status until 1994, the year that marked its establishment on the Grange du Faing site in Jamoigne. Since 2007, it has been located on the Montauban-Buzenol site where it offers the creation of temporary monumental and environmental works in an area devoted to archaeology, heritage and nature.

Montauban Archaeological Site and Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Nestled in the heart of the Gaume forest, the Montauban site is a mecca for archeology where vestiges of the past, history, heritage, natural riches and contemporary art meet.

Past and present intertwine to make it a place imbued with magic. This place of refuge presents the ruins of a castle that legend attributes to the four Sons of Aymon.

A true temple built in honor of Roman sculpture, the lapidary museum fits perfectly into this unique and magical place.

Throughout the year, the Contemporary Art Center of Belgian Luxembourg schedules exhibitions and artistic interventions outdoors as well as in the forges office and in the René Greisch space.
