Rifugio A. Bristot

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Alpine refuge inaugurated on 29 October 1950 in honour of Angelo Bristot, Silver Medal for Military Valour. It is located at an altitude of 1616 m above sea level, in the Alpe del Nevegal area, on the northern side of the Belluno Prealps. rifugiobristot.it

Taken from LOST IN PREALPS 2019:

"Mario De Donà, artist and designer, a true genius and pioneer of graphics. For everyone Eronda, the pseudonym by which he was known. Sixty years spent in the province of Belluno, among papers, clippings, catalogues and design works. But also urban landscape, architecture and interior design: the Bristot Refuge, for example, the Belluno City Park or the Tarantola bookshop. A career marked by the meeting with Bruno Munari, but remained, by choice, strongly linked to this territory.

It was his pen that traced the shapes of the Bristot Refuge, the fourth checkpoint of Lost in Prealps. In the post-war period, the Belluno CAI section, full of interests and initiatives, aimed to enhance the heritage and accommodation facilities in the localities under its jurisdiction, with the intent of offering new opportunities to hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. The small and elegant structure was completed in 1950 and dedicated to the memory of Angelo Bristot, a second lieutenant of the Alpine troops, gold medal for military valor, who fell in the Abyssinian war. After 70 years, unmistakable elements of his work can still be distinguished: geometry and nature, rigor and humor.

Nestled just below the summit of Col Toront, on the western side of the Prealps, the Bristot Refuge is a “Terrace on the Dolomites” that embraces the Valbelluna and the first Dolomite peaks: the Vette Feltrine, the Schiara, the Monti del Sole. Sharpening your eyesight, it is easy to also make out some important massifs such as Pelmo, Civetta and Marmolada. Once you arrive here, you can finally put aside the difference in altitude and take a well-deserved break, chat with Giovanna or some passing hiker. Behind you, you will have left the 1763 m of Col Visentin, the highest point of this adventure. From here, all you have to do is say goodbye to “il Colle” and go down towards your final destination."
