View of Marienthal and Ruppertsecken

Highlight • Viewpoint

A very nice view over the gently rolling hills a little way south of the village Marienthal at the edge of the forest.
Two large benches and a table in the direction invite you to linger and rest.

View of Mordkammertal near Blockhütte Marienthal

Highlight • Viewpoint

Tradition has twice reported a terrible bloodbath, betrayal, and wordiness, which led to terrible catastrophes here; the first time in the early days of the Germanic Wars - the second time from the time of the Peasants' War, when a prince of the Lorraine massacred the peasants encircled here, after delivering his weapons on his honorary promise of free withdrawal. Certainly certain indications of the origin of the name are missing. At the end of the valley, seemingly closed by young fir-trees, lies the Mordkammerhof, a poor lonely farmhouse in which the hiker is usually fortified by fresh milk, bread and eggs for the further march

September 29, 2023,Kleine Burgentour am Donnersberg (LEO 7.6.23)

Today I went on a small but nice castle tour with start and finish at the hiking car park at Falkenstein Castle. The tour itself was described in the LEO supplement of the Rheinpfalz-Zeitung. No spectacular highlights, but a comfortable round to switch off. On the way, between two harvested corn fields, I found a dead raccoon on the side …
