Pegnitz Valley East Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Pegnitztal Ost is fantastically beautiful. The Pegnitztal-Ost nature experience path has existed since 2000 as an environmental education offer for the city of Nuremberg. It was opened as part of the 950th anniversary celebrations as a local Agenda 21 project. The route runs between the Satzinger mill in Mögeldorf and the Hammer factory.

Ruins of Oberbürg Castle

Highlight • Castle

In the Pegnitztal Ost recreation area, you can visit the Oberbürg castle ruins. “Oberbürg Castle through the ages” - the history of the walls from their construction to destruction to the present day is shown on the station board. In modern times the Oberbürg was considered one of the most magnificent mansions in Nuremberg and was destroyed in an air raid in 1943.

Nuremberg is full of green oases and since December 2018 parts of the Pegnitz have been designated as the Pegnitztal Ost nature reserve. Stroll along the Pegnitz, have a picnic in the shade of the huge trees - as a city dweller you don't have to go far to get into the countryside.

Historic Hammer Factory Estate

Highlight • Historical Site

Already in the 14th century (1372) was in Hammer a mill from which gradually developed an industrial estate. From the year 1492 it is known that there was a brass hammer next to the mill. The industrial settlement Hammer is located outside Nuremberg's city center, east in the district of Laufamholz. This had advantages and disadvantages in earlier centuries. Advantage: One did not succumb to the restrictions of the Nuremberg industrial code. Disadvantage: The settlement did not enjoy the protection of the city wall and was destroyed in the second margrave war (1552). The reconstruction of the hammer mill as a wire drawing mill was carried out by the Kanler family. In order to prevent renewed destruction, the area was surrounded by a wall (except the river side).

Falkhof Former Residential Stable House

Highlight • Historical Site

This historic building is the last of eight farms in the village that have been preserved. The mighty roof and the half-timbered gable are remarkable. The square right next door, where the fountain is decorated for Easter, is also beautiful.
