View of Lake Wolfgangsee and the Schafberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lake Wolfgang is not only one of the largest, but also, thanks to its turquoise blue color, one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria. From up here you can see him perfectly!

Today I thought I'd try to hike up the Zwölferhorn. At the Sausteigalm with a view of the Zwölferhorn (that's halfway there) I just thought "oh man, really". But I'd reached my goal. I took the cable car down. Unbelievable, I really did it.

The descent is very steep, although it doesn't look that way from above. But you always have a beautiful view of the surroundings.

In great sunshine 🌞 we hiked from St. Gilgen to the Zwölferherndl. A scheena Dog ‼️👍

Thanks to the cable car, the Zwölferhorn is one of the region's tourist hotspots – and rightly so. The view from the summit of Lake Wolfgang, Lake Mondsee, and Lake Fuschl is simply spectacular.

The real highlight, however, is the climb itself – which is why you can safely skip the cable car. The trail begins directly in St. Gilgen. …

For the descent we preferred the cable car because of the slippery weather caused by the humidity, we are already >60.

From Sankt Gilgen we take the cable car up to the Zwölferhorn. Here we take a short detour to the summit cross and other viewpoints and then start the descent past the wonderful view at Elferstein. The path leads steeply downhill through the forest. There are always beautiful photo opportunities and views of the valley. We hike under the cable …

From St. Gilgen, we took the gondola 100 meters below the summit. We walked to the summit cross and then walked back to St. Gilgen. Almost 1,000 meters of descent over 6 km will take the wind out of your legs.
