Hainburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

The Heimenburg (or "Hainburg") is the ruin of a hilltop castle above the town of Hainburg on the Danube in Lower Austria.
According to legend, it takes its name from Heimo, the cupbearer of Arnulf of Carinthia, who commissioned it with the construction of a church and a castle (today's Bad Deutsch-Altenburg).
1042 were this castle in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg by Henry III. destroyed. At that time the chronicler Hermann von Reichenau called the "Heimenburg (Hainburg) and Brezesburg (Bratislava) very populous cities".
Emperor Henry III. ordered around 1050 at the Nuremberg Congress to build on the castle hill in today's Hainburg on the Danube, the Heimenburg new. It was destroyed in the 2nd Turkish siege in 1683. After 1742, due to the construction of the new castle at the foot of the castle hill, the decline of the castle occurred. (Wikipedia)

Infantry Bunker B-S 4 "Lány"

Highlight • Historical Site

Here, where the border between Czechoslovakia and Austria lay between the two world wars, Czechoslovakia had built a very modern line of defense after the First World War. The irony of history was that, with the Munich Agreement, Czechoslovakia had to cede the area on which this line of defense lay to the aggressor against whom it was supposed to protect the country. The "isolated infantry bunker B-S4 Lany", which still stands at the historic site today, was part of this line of defense. The site is open to the public. Interior tours are only possible with a guide, usually from April to October on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. for an entrance fee of € 5.

View of the UFO Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The UFO Tower in Bratislava is far more than just a viewpoint – it is the futuristic landmark of the Slovak capital and an architectural statement from the era of Modernism. An elevator in the left pylon takes you to the top in just 45 seconds. For the sporty: there is also an emergency staircase with 430 steps, on which a stair run takes place annually.

Bratislava Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle, also known as Bratislava Castle, is the landmark of Bratislava. It is located on a rock 85 meters above the Danube.
Bratislava is an up-and-coming city and is one of my favorites. You must see the old town.
We have been to Bratislava in the summer and over Christmas. Both seasons are highly recommended.
