The Great Eutin Lake lies northeast of the town of Eutin. It covers 230 hectares and has a maximum depth of 17 meters. Spread along the lake's shores are Eutin Castle and its gardens, the open-air stage, which hosts concerts and theater performances in the summer, the lakeside promenade with access to Eutin's town center, and the lakeside park with a playground. The western part of the lake is separated by the Bebensund Bridge, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the lake and the historic bathing establishment. The Schwentine River flows into and out of the western part of the lake. Furthermore, Lake Eutin contains two islands: Pheasant Island and Love Island. The Pheasant Island is the origin of Eutin's settlement; today, the island is privately owned and not open to the public. An 8.9 km hiking trail invites you to circumnavigate the Great Eutin Lake. After crossing the Seeschaar Forest, the trail mostly follows the shore.
