The southern driveway from Kandern is a full eight kilometers longer than the one from the northwest via Badenweiler, so the gradient here is largely moderate and manageable even for those with less fitness. For ambitious drivers, the other direction of travel is generally recommended, especially since the descent to Kandern allows significantly higher speeds due to fewer curves.
