Chiesa di Comella

Highlight • Religious Site

In the countryside of Seniga stands the Pieve Santa Maria Annunciata di Comella, a Romanesque church built entirely of terracotta built by the Benedictines of the Abbey of Leno in the 13th century. Inside it has a very beautiful architectural style has a beautiful altar with a beautiful staircase to climb, a beautiful crypt made entirely of faces with columns and a beautiful fresco of the Madonna del Latte of the 400. Outside there is a very beautiful park and the Mella river also passes nearby and flows into the Oglio. The church was closed but there were volunteers who were arranging the park and very kind they opened the church for me to visit, for which I thank them very much because it was a nice visit.

Pontevico is a municipality in the province of Brescia on the left bank of the Oglio river. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of the river and the castle of Pontevico, and several cycle routes pass through here, including the Oglio cycle route, the Mello cycle route, and the section connecting Brescia and Cremona.

Trail Along the Strone River

Highlight • Trail

The Strone river originates from the small lake of Scarpizzolo, a hamlet located within the territory of San Paolo, located in the Fenile delle Passere area and into which the Strone Basso, or Stronello, and the Fosso Strone flow. The first is a small watercourse that originates from the springs located in Corno, north of the lake, while the second is an artificial watercourse that derives from the merger of the Roggia Torcola and the Roggia Fenarola (which originates near Gerolanuova).[2] The two waterways form the lake through two artificial reservoirs which, through their bulkheads, cause their water to fall several meters, forming the Strone.[3]

In the first 10 kilometres, from Scarpizzolo the Strone flows in a north-south direction towards Cadignano, where it is fed by the Roggia Fiumazzo, and then passes with a very tortuous course between Scorzarolo, where it is fed by the Vaso Lusignolo, and Verolavecchia, before reaching Verolanuova. Near the latter, the Gambaresca Roggia enters it. The last 8 kilometers of the river are characterized by a bumpy course and a certain slope. Between Verolanuova and Pontevico, the river penetrates the Vincellate Park, where there is a jump used for the production of hydroelectric energy. At the Cascina Vincellate, the watercourse is diverted with the municipal Seriola of Pontevico, aimed at irrigating the cultivated fields and then penetrating into the town of the same name and flowing into the Oglio. Like the river that diverted from it, the Strone also flows into the Oglio in Pontevico.

Strone River Park

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Strone Park, along the suggestive 18 kilometers of the Strone river, was recognized as a local park of supra-municipal interest by the Lombardy region in 1990. Ideal for those who love cycling, it offers a well-trodden dirt surface, with the cycle path that winds near the river, offering a compelling experience in uncontaminated nature.
