Vulkan Cycle Path at Eisenbach Castle

Highlight • Cycleway

Like the entire cycle path, this section is well developed. A normal trekking bike is sufficient.

The Lauter is the 27.9 kilometers long, left source river of the Schlitz. It flows through Lauterbach and gave the city its name. In Bad Salzschlirf it flows together with the Altefeld and this is how the Schlitz is created, which in turn flows into the Fulda behind the town of Schlitz.

Historic Old Town of Schlitz

Highlight • Historical Site

The town has four castles. The centre of the town is the market square with the St. George's fountain. The town is a medieval jewel. Be sure to go up to the rear tower. There is an elevator. From there you have a beautiful view of the town and the Schlitzer Land. Unfortunately, the restaurants are not tourist-friendly. The few restaurants only open from 5 p.m.

View of Eisenbach Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Unfortunately, a bit away from the bike path, in the castle courtyard, is the castle coffee. We recommend. Regarding the Corona opening times, please check the Internet.

June 1, 2023,Vulkanradweg zwischen Schlitz und Herbstein Do1.6.2023
A magnificent section of the Vulkanradweg in the Vogelsberg mountains. It offers a nice change between fringing bush hedges and open countryside with great views. And again a treat for ears and soul thanks to the loud singing of countless little feather friends! Dear goodness, how such magnificent euphonies can arise in these little throats!

That was the final tour of this year's cycling holiday in Hesse. Tomorrow we head back home, where we'll revise all the tours.

Before the holiday is over: Today the 3rd stage of the Vulkanradweg started - with continuous drizzle and lots of wind! From Schlitz to Bad Salzschlirf, then via Angersbach to Lauterbach (I love this little town - I'm always happy when I'm there), then to Herbstein and then back to Schlitz...
My recommendation: Eisenbach Castle! Definitely have a look - …

This time Kommot is crazy. The tour took around 10 hours including breaks and of course we didn't cycle at 38 km/h. That much is clear.
The Vogelsberg is a low mountain range in eastern Hesse and forms the largest contiguous area of extinct volcanoes in Europe. First on the Hessian long-distance cycle route F 7, the volcano cycle path …

So today is the 3rd stage on the volcano cycle path from Lauterbach to Schlitz.
We explored the beautiful old town in Schlitz and then went to the back tower. The tower guide "Udo" was waiting for us here and we were given a little history of the castle town of Schlitz, then we went up the tower at a …

Another section on the Vulkanradweg. The next step is to close the gap between Lauterbach and Hartmannshain. Then I want to cycle at least to Glauburg.

Brought the car to be repaired and made a short tour to Bad Salzschlirf and Schlitz, each with an extensive tour, to bridge the gap. After yesterday's strenuous tour you can do that.
