Heck cattle and water buffalo in the Aurach Valley

Highlight • Natural

In the Aurach Valley between Walsdorf and Lisberg, new approaches have been taken in landscape management for several years. In 2006 a grazing project “Aurachochse” started between Walsdorf and Zettelsdorf with eight rear cattle, a back-breeding of the aurochs. In the meantime the herd has grown to an impressive number. In 2011, water buffalos and Koniks were added to the floodplain between Kolmsdorf and Feigendorf. The robust herbivores are kept outside all year round and only need to be fed in real emergencies such as long-lasting snow cover or floods. Prerequisites for year-round grazing are sufficiently large pastures, a low animal density and close interlinking between open land, bushes and groups of trees

The former fishing settlement in the Bamberg island town is affectionately called "Little Venice". Tightly packed half-timbered buildings and tiny gardens dominate the image of this district. The half-timbered houses are mostly from the Middle Ages.

Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), Bamberg

Highlight • Historical Site

According to legend, the bishop of Bamberg did not want to give the citizens a place to build a town hall. That is why the Bamberg piles rammed into the Regnitz and created an artificial island on which they built the town hall.

Particularly noticeable are the frescoes, which also come into their own at night thanks to the lighting.

Old Town Bamberg

Highlight • Historical Site

Bamberg is well worth it! Although very touristy this city - but with many highlights. The city is located in the north of Bavaria and at the mouth of the rivers Regnitz and Main and extends over seven hills. Many picturesque buildings characterize the old town, where everyone finds a cozy place to rest. Attractions such as the Old Town Hall, the cathedral, the Hofbräu, and many others.

Today's tour was beautiful. It began with a gentle incline before climbing steeply – almost alpine by Cologne standards. The cobblestones really put my suspension seat post to the test. I was all the more grateful to have such a good model – in Bamberg, that's definitely an advantage, as cobblestones are quite common here.

From Bamberg through the old town where everything is already being set up for the Sand Kerwa, along the Regnitz to the Main.
Uphill over the pond with the Kundmüller brewery to Trabelsdorf in the Aurachgrund with its water buffalo and wild horses.
The Schrauder Keller in Pettstadt was still on holiday, so we finished off at the Kunni Kiosk …

The task from my better half was:
A bike tour with lots of shade, often by the water and lots of places to stop for a break.😳
Phew, I did it.🤣💪🙋‍♂️

Today we went up to Altenburg Castle—who planned that tour? 🥵
After visiting the castle, we headed down along the Aurach River.
Then we walked back a few meters along the Main River.
