Commemorative Stone of the Associations of German Students

Highlight • Monument

The German Students' Association's embassy memorial stone is a reminder of how enthusiastically the students received the "social message" of Kaiser Wilhelm I on November 17, 1881. The Kaiser had demanded care for the German working class before the Reichstag and thus laid the foundation for German social policy. The erection of this memorial stone was a sign of the students' social commitment. It showed part of the text of the imperial message on a bronze plaque. The plaque remained here until June 1960, when it was dismantled and destroyed on the orders of the district council. It was replaced by an overview map of the hiking trails on the Kyffhäuser. On June 5, 1993, a new sandstone plaque was unveiled on the memorial stone with excerpts from the imperial social message.
