Since the late Middle Ages, an underground canal has passed through the marketplace of Weismain, supplied the city fountain with water. This so-called Roland fountain was built 1572-1577. The figure is said to come from the Bamberg sculptor Pankraz Wagner. Since the original figure probably since 1879 in the courtyard of the moated castle in Mitwitz, the Weismainer received a copy. Unclear is the interpretation of the figure: A "Roland" is probably not.
