Jagdschloss Holzberghof

Highlight • Restaurant

In the 16th century, an iron smelter was built on the Holzberg by the von Thüngen noble family.

In 1954, the hunting lodge was bought by the current owners, the Meinschäfer family, and converted into a restaurant with guest rooms. In the cozy dining room, modeled on a knight's hall, you can still sit romantically in the light of petroleum lamps.

In many parts of the Rhön either the Heidelstein or the Kreuzberg can be seen. Their distinctive transmission masts make them easily recognizable. Here on the plateau, both can be seen, depending on which direction you look: to the north is the Heidelstein (925.7 m above sea level, fourth highest mountain in the Rhön) and to the south is the Kreuzberg (927.8 m above sea level , third highest mountain in the Rhön).

September 5, 2021,Abschlussrunde 👣🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️in der Langen Rhön☀️: Rothsee – Teufelsmühle 👹 - Basaltsteinbruch Bauersberg
At the end of our Rhön weekend, we did a short lap in the Langen Rhön today 🙂.
We started at the Rothsee hiking car park, first we went to the small lake and then we followed path no. The first half ran mainly through the forest, along a babbling brook and always uphill.
The second half again led gently …

We have actually made the round completely .. But this time from Rotsee straight to the Teufelsmühle, and lo and behold, we made it! The children were a bit tired, but they managed it bravely anyway, I'm proud of them !!

A weekend in the Bavarian Rhön Mountains. Today we started at the Holzberghof hunting lodge, crossing Rhön meadows with Rhön sheep toward Rothsee. There we stopped for coffee, cake, and beer. It was a very idyllic setting with plenty of benches for resting around the lake. After a short climb, we returned to the hunting lodge.
