Beeley Moor

Highlight • Viewpoint

Beeley Moor is situated in the Peak District National Park near the village of Beeley. It is a gritstone upland area with a wild beauty and fantastic views over the surrounding area

Chatsworth Hunting Tower

Highlight • Monument

The Hunting Tower stands on the escarpment 400 feet (122 m) above Chatsworth House, on the edge of Stand Wood. Complete with old cannons facing the gorgeous view, it's a great place to stop for a moment. The tower was completed around 1582 for Bess of Hardwick, ancestress of the Dukes of Devonshire. These days, you can rent the Hunting Tower for overnight stays.

Steps to the Hunting Tower

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Some steps are quite steep. Take it slowly as they can get slippery. Definitely worth going up

Hunting Tower and Cannons, Stand Wood

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

There are lots of paths through Stand Wood, my favourite is the steep stepped path up to the Hunting Tower.

Jumble Coppice Rocky Outcrop

Highlight • Natural Monument

The views from here down onto Baslow are super nice, especially in the right weather, and that could be winter or summer. A short way away is Chatworth House, which is also worth a visit. There is a lot to do in this area, a great area for hiking, too much for a single visit.

Along this footpath, you get breathtaking views over Baslow nestling in the valley below. There are some great trails around here and lots of spectacular vistas to enjoy.

The Cannon Kissing Gate was unveiled in 1999 by the Duke of Devonshire and Mrs Jill Cannon. Mrs Cannon was the inspiration behind the gate, which was designed to be fully secure yet also wheelchair friendly. It gives access to the 1,000-acre (400 ha) grounds of Chatsworth Park.
