Loreto Chapel on Annaberg

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1753, the Sulzbacher Princess Elisabeth Auguste, the first wife of the later Bavarian Elector Karl Theodor, had a Loreto chapel built on the Annaberg. Symbolized by the small church, the parental home of Mary, which was transposed according to legend by Probst Teramus of Loreto in 1291 from Nazareth to Loreto in Italy. The "Casa Santa" refers to the mother Anna, the place of the Annunciation to Mary and thus also to Mary as Mother of Jesus.

Annaberg Church (Sulzbach-Rosenberg)

Highlight • Religious Site

Count Palatine Christian August donated in 1656 a hexagonal wooden chapel on the Kastenbühl, the present Annaberg, in which the late Gothic picture of grace St. Anna Selbdritt set up again and the Annenwallfahrt extinct with the Reformation was resumed. The "Welsche" master builder Johann Rampino replaced the chapel in 1676 with an oval central building in stone. Enlargement took place in 1787 by the master builder Sulzbacher Johann Zeitler, in which the eastern half of the central building was preserved as a choir. The walls of the nave are divided into Tuscan pilaster pairs with beams. The tower dates from 1827, in its basement there is a Lourdes grotto with votive images. The organ was made by Elias Hößler 1731/32, the high altar dates from 1737, the choir litter from 1741/42. Count Palatine Karl Theodor had 1754/55 the avenue to Annaberg create with Stations of the Cross. Open during the day to the choir gate.

Emperor Charles IV sent relics from Pilsen in 1355 for the new construction of the parish church. After the choir, the nave was built in 1412. From 1488 the church was north and south by Hans Behaim d. Ä. expanded with two-story family chapels. This created a three-aisled, vaulted room of the type between the hall and the basilica. In 1526 a three-aisled west gallery with two spiral staircases was pulled in. From 1692 to 1696, Johann Rampino rebuilt the church tower that had collapsed the year before. The high altar with the altar leaf by Hans Georg Asam was created in 1710/11 based on a design by Count Palatine Theodor Eustach. The life-size stone figure of St. Wenceslas with the portrait trains of Emperor Charles IV on a leaf console under a canopy. From 1652 - 1958 St. Marien served as a parish church for both denominations in Sulzbach.
