Sheltered Rest Area on the Ems-Vechte Canal

Up until the 1960s, cargo ships with up to 200 tonnes of cargo travelled on the 16 m wide and 1.8 m deep canal. As the ships became larger and the cargo increased, its usability was restricted. Today, only small boats and the occasional excursion boat travel from Hannekenfähr to Nordhorn.
The cycle path along the canal is highly recommended and runs mostly along the "Nordhorn Range" bombing range.
