Stone Werra Bridge and Bridge Chapel

Highlight • Bridge

A beautiful historic bridge with an old chapel spans the Werra River here in Obermaßfeld. A new bridge is currently being built right next to it. Will it be visually appealing?

Half-timbered house in Jüchsen

Highlight • Monument

A well-kept and well-preserved half-timbered house is right on the bike path in Jüchsen. The saying on the house: "A house is built with understanding and maintained with a lot of love" applies here completely.

St. Michael's Church, Jüchsen

Highlight • Religious Site

The museum, newly established in 1997, displays a variety of interesting exhibits. Visitors gain detailed insights into the history of Jüchsen.

Some finds are the result of years of archaeological research into the prehistoric settlement of Widderstatt (dating back to 8000 BC).

The well-written text and the selection of exhibits make the visit a unique experience for all history buffs. The museum is located on the Celtic Experience Trail, which leads past interesting prehistoric settlements, hill forts, and more.

Römhild Collegiate Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The collegiate church was first mentioned in documents in 1341 and was elevated to an independent parish church around 60 years later under the line of the Counts of Henneberg, who resided in Römhild.

The most valuable items in the church are the bronze grave monuments of the Henneberg counts, which were created in the workshop of the Nuremberg bronze caster Peter Vischer and his sons. They are a free-standing statue of Otto IV of Henneberg and the sarcophagus of the Henneberg count couple Hermann VIII and Elisabeth of Brandenburg. Both from the period 1488 - 1510.

October 16, 2024,Fahrradtour nach Römhild
I took advantage of the beautiful autumn weather for a bike ride on the new bike path to Römhild. I stopped for a coffee in the cafe at Schabhof. The cattle market has become really beautiful, and there is now a new fountain there that fits in with the square.

I was actually lucky in Schloss Glücksburg: I only had to ring the bell three times during normal opening hours, then the big door was unlocked and I was the only visitor allowed to enter the museum. There are exhibitions on the history of regional crafts, especially pottery, for which Römhild is known.
Why is the relatively inconspicuous castle called …

Today I finally took advantage of the nice weather for a bike ride again. Last week I was more passive on my tour through Scotland.
I also wanted to break in my new bike saddle. I took @Mehlser 🚴🏻's advice and did a shorter tour first. In the end, the saddle wasn't as comfortable as it was at the beginning.
