Woodhouse Copse and Pinhorns Rough

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

A lovely peaceful walk through Woodhouse Copse and Pinhorns Rough within the larger Roydon Woods Nature Reserve. Terrific, comfortable paths to walk, lots of beautiful trees and peace: once you've left the hustle and bustle of Brockenhurst, you can forget the cars and the rest of it and just enjoy being away from all the rush.

Perfect off-road cut through from Lymington/Pilley to Brockenhurst. Not really suitable for road bikes but anything with a chunkier tyre will be fine.

Roydon Manor

Highlight • Other

Roydon Manor was built in the late 17th century and is Grade II listed. The house was built by Gresham Hussey from bricks made at the local brickworks, and its name is derived from 'Roi Donne' (a gift from the King).

Roydon Woods Nature Reserve

Highlight • Trail

This nature reserve is within the New Forest National Park but lies outside the traditional forest boundary. Managed by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, the reserve is a wonderful mix of ancient woodland, heathland, grassland, ponds and streams.

Look out for old boundary banks and coppice stools, where hazel was cut to ground level and new growth harvested for poles and making charcoal. Plants such as Butcher's broom and wild garlic grow where the soil has not been disturbed, and it is a good spot for bluebells in the spring. Please keep dogs on a lead in the reserve.
