Ashton Court Deer Park

Highlight • Viewpoint

Ashton Court has been the site of a deer park for 600 years. Today, there are around 110 red deer and 90 fallow deer within a 200-acre (81 ha) enclosure. These majestic animals can be spotted from a few places in the park.

Ashton Court Estate

Beautiful countryside estate just a few minutes ride from Bristol city centre. The estate has a manor house with a little cafe attached and toilets. The gardens are open to the public and feature some interesting new sculptures. The grounds have a range of bridleways if you fancy getting off the tarmac and great MTB trails if you want to switch it up completely. There's also football golf, frisbee golf and MTB hire!

Ashton Court Deer Park

Red Deer are the largest land mammals in Britain, fully grown males can weight 220kg! You can walk through the park and watch the deer but make sure dogs are kept on a lead and don't approach the deer.
The deer park at Ashton Court is one of the oldest in the country, Thomas Lyon created it in 1393 with permission from king Richard II.

Ashton Court rewards with panoramic views across Bristol. Many of the city's landmarks are visible, including Ashton Gate Stadium and Brandon Hill. On the far horizon you can see the distinctive clump of trees that adorn the top of Kelston Roundhill above Bath.

Ashton Court is well worth a visit on mountain bikes or cross bikes. A single track trail snakes around the outside of the estate and suitable for anyone with a reasonable ability on a bike. There is also a really nice cycle friendly cafe where you can grab a coffee and slice of cake.
