Wooden sculptures in Bad Elster

Highlight • Structure

The sculpture park in the center of Bad Elster presents an impressive, representative cross-section of wooden sculptures by international artists.
The sculptures are arranged in the thematic areas of “organic-abstract forms,” “abstract symbols,” and “figures.” Classic sculptural manuscripts meet experimental, folkloric or constructive concepts and German, Polish, Czech, Romanian or Bulgarian works are juxtaposed with Argentine, Canadian, Swiss and Japanese art traditions.

König Albert Theatre, Bad Elster

Highlight • Monument

Bad Elster can look back on a long theater tradition: performances in the “Alberttheater” on Brunnenberg began as early as 1888.
In 1913, the theater company founded in Bad Elster commissioned the famous Chemnitz architects Alfred Zapp and Erich Basarke to plan and build a modern, representative theater. After less than two years of construction, today's "König Albert Theater" was opened on May 22, 1914 by King Friedrich August III. of Saxony was ceremoniously opened as the last German court theater.
The impressive architecture and the artistic interior design in the public areas with two boxes continue to delight visitors to this day.

The road from Asch to Bad Elster was newly paved, so you can really let it rip and there are no mountains worth mentioning on the route, I would recommend Bad Elster-Bad Brambach as a connecting route (if you are lucky there is a direct link in Mühlhausen the road delicious Thuringian bratwurst) from Bad Brambach down to Vojtanov and Haslov and over the golf course to Skalka and up to Vyhledy from there to Nebesa, Mokriny back to Asch. The road surface is completely new on the Czech side and good anyway on the German side. I drove the opposite way. From Selb-Selb about 68km

Town Hall of Aš

Highlight • Monument

The town hall in Asch (Czech: Aš) was built after the city fire of 1814. The first known Ascher town hall fell victim to a fire in 1696, and the magistrate lived in a makeshift building for a while. In 1733, a new town hall was built according to plans by the Eger builder Pfefferle and - after the fire of 1814 - rebuilt in a very similar way. In 1885 it was enlarged by adding a second floor. The shape of the roof and the tower were also changed.
