Oppidum Závist

Highlight • Historical Site

Remains of ramparts and archaeological research show that the largest fortified Celtic fortified settlement (oppidum) in our area was located in this area. Its construction began around 175 BC (during the La Tène, ie the Late Iron Age) and the total area reached up to 118 ha. The top plateau was probably inhabited much earlier, already in the late Stone Age.

The archaeological site had to be filled in for protection in 2003, so you can imagine the former appearance of this historic site mainly thanks to the stops of the nature trail and the remains of a massive fortification, which changed the terrain and the shape of the hill.

Vyšehrad Gallery

Highlight • Religious Site

Every hour on the hour, the carillon of the collegiate church at Vyšehrad rings out. The church has undergone numerous structural changes since it was built 950 years ago. The last structural change was completed in 1903, giving the church its current neo-Gothic appearance. The interior is richly decorated with ornaments and Art Nouveau wall paintings depicting figures. The church's treasury houses a permanent exhibition of jewelry and valuable fabrics.

National Museum, Prague

Highlight • Monument

The neo-renaissance building of the National Museum has been an important dominant feature of the upper part of Wenceslas Square since 1891. The museum has not been significantly renovated since its construction, but it was damaged by two military attacks in 1945 and 1968. The costly renovation aims to save this important cultural national monument and transform it into modern museum space.
The new permanent exposures represent the largest exhibition project in Czech history. They are based on the collection character of the museum, where historical and scientific topics are combined. At the same time, the most modern forms of presentation, audiovisual and interactive media are used. In total, around 80,000 collectibles will be exhibited on an area of 12,000 square meters.
