Falkert Lake

Highlight • Lake

Falkertsee is a small holiday mountain village in the Kärnten Nock Mountains with a beautiful, high-alpine lake and some lift facilities for winter sports. In summer it is more of an oasis of peace, while in winter there can be quite a bit of activity.

Sonntagstal

Highlight • Gorge

Most of the vertical meters were made during the ascent over the Sonntagstal (approx. 300 vertical meters). It was very easy to see that the rocks are phyllite and slate, since the southern flank of the Falkert is not covered by grass like other mountains in the Nock region.

Murmelsteig via ferrata

Highlight • Climb

The brand new via ferrata will be opened in the coming spring, but we just did not want to wait so long to test the latest work by the East Tyrolean via ferrata setter and professional hiker Peter Ortner, who has achieved something great again in Carinthia. Heidi Alm Managing Director Florian "Flo" Köfer also helped with the construction. "At Falkert, next to the heavy 'Falkensteig', we wanted a lighter one for our mountain-loving guests." The new via ferrata runs proudly for 400 meters from Sonntagstal to almost the brand new summit cross.

The line chosen by Ortner is excellent, not stingy with spectacular views and exposed areas. Nevertheless, the climb should be classified in category B. "There were some treads set and sometimes kicks kicked in the rock," reveals the former freeride professional and extreme skier. The 38-year-old is particularly impressed by the 20 meter long rope bridge ...

Ascent to Falkertspitze

Highlight • Climb

Nice overview of the Sunday valley where you can see how the meltwater affects the slopes (slippery, mudflows).

Falkertspitz Summit

Highlight • Summit

At 2,308 meters high, the Falkert is one of the most beautiful peaks in the Nock Mountains. At its foot are the Falkertsee and the Heidialm as well as a couple of wonderful huts to stop off as a reward for the mountain tour. There is a steep ascent to the Falkert along the cliff edge, which I managed in 33 minutes. But I recommend the longer tour over the Alm, which can be done comfortably in an hour and a half.

Ochsenauge Pond

Highlight • Lake

The ox eye is a small lake above the Falkertsee. On the way to the summit of the Falkert you pass here and can take a break on the rest benches. Many flowers such as the alpine rose grow on the bank.
