Chiesetta degli Alpini

Highlight • Religious Site

CHURCH OF THE ALPINI:
The church was dedicated in memory of the Alpine soldier Finco Scampit and of all the Alpine soldiers who made their lives a generous gift to their people, expressing the distinctive qualities of those who live in the mountains. The painting on the outside wall of the church depicts the countryside in Russia.

The place of worship, previously used as a road worker's house, was dedicated after the renovation to the memory of Antonio Finco Scampit, the Alpine soldier who survived the campaign in Russia and who worked in this small building until the 1980s. Together with him, the plaques inside also remember "all the Alpine soldiers of Gallio who in peace and in arms made their existence a generous and selfless gift to their land and their people, thus expressing the peculiar and distinctive qualities of those who live and live in the mountains".

Chapel of San Lorenzo

Highlight • Religious Site

This small church was built in 1741 by Giovanni Battista Carli di Asiago, Chancellor of the Regency of the 7 Municipalities. He had some huts for rent, run by his family.
The church served, then as today, to celebrate mass for the benefit of the Malghesi of Marcésina and surroundings.
Destroyed during the 1915-18 war, it was rebuilt using part of the stones recovered there.
Today it is a point of reference in the Piana di Marcesina, and certainly a gem not to be missed!

Barricata Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The plain of Marcesina has been a borderland between Venice and Austria for centuries, at a time when farmers competed for precious high-altitude pastures. On the edge of this plateau, where it is still possible to walk the path of the boundary stones, there is the Barricata refuge: go there in summer to have fun on a mountain bike, come back in winter (with snowshoes or cross-country skis) to find out if this land really deserves the nickname of Finland of Italy due to the very rigid temperatures that are recorded periodically due to the basin conformation of the entire area. A place chosen by man since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the archaeological remains present at Riparo Dalmeri.

Malga Fiara

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Malga Fiara is located in a predominantly wooded area, in which the large pastures that characterize many other structures on the plateau are instead replaced by small clearings within the spruce and larch forest, in which there are also numerous outcropping rocks, dangerous sinkholes and in some cases even real caves. The flock of sheep hosted here also benefits from the grazing of the adjacent Malga Bosco Secco, as it is merged. Given its historical past, it is not uncommon to find what remains of trenches and war artefacts in the pasture of the mountain hut.

Nice roundabout almost exclusively on dirt starting from the convenient Melette parking lot up to the plain of Marcesina where the eagle 🦅 of Martalar makes a fine show of itself and where there are countless refreshment points 🍻, including the Barricata refuge, where we meet two dear friends and a good pasta 🍝 . Beautiful tour between Gallio and Marcesina. We start from the large Melette parking lot and turn left crossing the very green mountain pasture 🐮 that leads to the Longara huts first and then to the Woitila bell 🔔, enjoying a splendid view of the villages below and the nearby and distant peaks 🏔️. The surface here is dirt but smooth …
