St. Urban Church, Schonach

Highlight • Religious Site

A first church was probably already built around the year 1100, which was possibly initially looked after by the Benedictine monastery of St. Georgen, founded in 1084. The founding of a separate parish is believed to have been made around the year 1150 by the Baron of Althornberg. Triberg (until 1513), Nußbach (until 1564), Niederwasser (until 1788/1789) and at times also Gremmelsbach belonged to the parish of Schonach. Triberg probably had a Blasius and Quirinus chapel around 1200, but only got a chaplain in 1513 and became its own parish. This makes Schonach one of the oldest parishes in the area.

In this section of the climb to Wilhelmshöhe you have most of the vertical meters already in your bag, the slope flattens out noticeably and you drive with a lot of views over a wide meadow slope - nice opportunity to calm your pulse a bit and already on the next descent to Schonach and Triberg to look forward to.

Through Prechtal

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

From the main town of Prechtal, the road towards Schonach still leads in unexploited condition. The narrow and winding, but well-built little street still has the original charm of an old country road and passes by some farms and hamlets of Prechtal. After approx. 4 km, the modern-developed section begins, which reaches as far as Schonach. Although the valley is still highly recommended, the new line for cycling is not nearly as nice as the lower section.

Church of Mariä Krönung, Oberprechtal

Highlight • Religious Site

The church was built in 1780/81 and became simultaneously by evang. And cath. Christians used. The interior of the church was decorated in Baroque style. A pulpit was installed in 1782. In 1786, the altar was erected, followed a year later by the sweeping framing of the high altar with four Corinthian columns and a crown-like structure overhanging the tabernacle structure.

Upper Elz Valley

Highlight • Trail

The climb through the upper Elztal is hardly worth mentioning most of the time, but at the end of the valley it then attracts again for almost 100 meters of altitude to slightly more noticeable values of 8-9%.

Black Forest village in the high valley above Triberg. Many small, rarely used roads invite you to explore the beautiful landscape by racing bike from here.
