Memorial Site Bunker Valentin

Highlight • Historical Site

The bunker Valentin is the ruin of a submarine shipyard of the German navy from the Second World War. From 1943 to 1945, thousands of forced laborers from all over Europe were used here: civilians as well as prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates. More than 1,100 of them died during construction of malnutrition, disease and indiscriminate killings. What remains is the bunker Valentin, a unique and unmissable relic of Nazi armor for the naval war. He is a place of remembrance of the war and of the crimes of the National Socialist rule.
The grounds and the very impressive multimedia information center are open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, except on Mondays and Saturdays.
On public holidays the place of thought is closed.

New Hunte Bridge, Huntebrück

Highlight • Bridge

The new Huntebrücke is part of the new construction of the federal highway 212 in Lower Saxony. The waiting times for road users have been significantly reduced thanks to the efficient lifting and lowering mechanism. The headroom, which is 1.90 m higher than that of the old lifting bridge, also contributes to this.
The new bridge has a total length of 84 m, making it the largest single-wing bascule bridge in Germany. The western approach bridge is about 60 m long, the eastern about 90 m. The bridge superstructure is made of steel, the substructure is made of reinforced concrete. The structure was designed with a shallow foundation and rests on an abutment.

Folding wing reaches 70 m in height

The spans of the bridge are 66.3 m, the construction width is 14.65 m. When the bridge is fully open, the folding wing reaches a height of 70 m. The rear part of the bridge deck sinks into the basement of the bridge pier and serves as a counterweight.
