Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi

Highlight • Settlement

Lovers of good food know that Forlimpopoli is the town of Pellegrino Artusi, to whom a statue visible on the Via Emilia has been dedicated. Every year the Artusi festival is organized as a tribute to him, a week dedicated to events, shows and cooking tastings.

The Palazzo della Torre (or clock) overlooks the main square of Forlimpopoli.
Originally the residence of the Podestà of Forlimpopoli, the building faced the original cathedral and the bishopric before Albornoz's destruction of the city.
Rebuilt starting from 1380 during the lordship of Sinibaldo Ordelaffi, the palace became the seat of the Forlimpopoli Municipality which remained here until 1801, the year in which, with the arrival of the French, it was transferred to the Rocca.
Over the centuries it has been the subject of numerous transformations and significant expansions.
In particular, between 1825 and 1834, based on a design by the Forlimpopoli architect Raffaele Briganti, the entire façade was completely redone and the clock tower was erected.
With the unification of Italy it was decided to host the nursery school inside the building, which would remain there until 1919.
In 1928 the building became the seat of the Casa del Fascio.
At the end of the war the Municipality of Forlimpopoli managed to regain possession of the building of which it still holds ownership.
In 1975 a new electric mechanism replaced the old hand-wound watch.

In Forlimpopoli, the artist Pier Paolo Spinazzé, known as “Cibo,” has created a large mural in honor of Pellegrino Artusi and his famous cookbook “La scienza in cucina e l’arte di mangiare bene.” Cibo is known for his work in which he paints over hateful symbols and graffiti with colorful images of food. For this particular mural, he chose to illustrate the recipe for “cappelletti all’uso di Romagna,” a dish typical of the region and Artusi’s origins. The mural shows the ingredients, the preparation of the pasta, and the way the cappelletti are folded and cooked.

Highlight • Castle

The castle in the city center is a real eye-catcher. If you've made the round of Granfondo "Nove Colli", this is a good place to replenish your energy reserves before the first climb.
