This pretty village of Haute Provence perched on a mound dominating the banks and the valley of the Verdon, takes its name from the Occitan, bèl and vezer, meaning "beautiful to see"; and this is the case... The small town experienced a major economic boom in the 19th century with the installation of textile industries dedicated to wool weaving and which continued until the middle of the 20th century.
