Regarding the stone cross:

A little research revealed that it appears to be a so-called expiatory cross, of which there are many in Germany.

It apparently doesn't commemorate a church event, but was erected in 1984 during land consolidation measures as a kind of memorial. It is meant to be a general call for gratitude.
