Place aux Foires, Marche-en-Famenne

Highlight • Settlement

Lively place with numerous cafes and restaurants.

Caution: The train station does not have a real platform and you have to lift your bike about half a meter into the train. I couldn't have done it without help.

I really liked this stage:

The station was established in 1953. It was created by the Royal Observatory of Belgium to house the first Belgian radio telescopes dedicated to observing the sun. The station's current activity consists of optical and radio observations of the sky, the sun, space, and the atmosphere.

Line 150 is built by the Belgian State Railways to connect the lower Sambre to the French Ardennes: two industrial basins connected by water but for which rail represents a significant acceleration.

The Ermeton-sur-Biert - Anhée section (near Dinant) is also called "Ligne de la Molignée", named after the river whose valley it follows. The line has a second section between Jemelle and Dinant. This second section - also called "Ligne de la Lesse" - was also referenced under line number 152 at the time of the Belgian state company. If the two sections have the same name, it is because initially they were a single line, integrating the Dinant - Houyet junction. The evolution of the two sections will, however, be relatively independent. Since the closure of the Jemelle - Houyet section, the remaining section (Houyet - Dinant) is administratively integrated into line 166.

Former Villers-sur-Lesse railway station

Highlight • Historical Site

Villers-sur-Lesse station, also known as Villers-sur-Lesse-Jamblinne from 1902 to 1918, is a Belgian railway station, closed and disused, on line 150, from Jemelle to Houyet. It is located, rue des plane trees, on the edge of the Lesse, about 500 m north of the village of Villers-sur-Lesse, on the territory of the commune of Rochefort, in the Walloon Region in the province of Namur.

Commissioned in 1888 by the Belgian State Railways, it was closed, like the line, to passenger service in 1959. After the tracks were dismantled in 1984, the old building, which became private property, was on the edge of the RAVeL which follows the route of the old line 150.

The Lesse

Highlight • River

The Lesse Valley is really beautiful. Parts of it can be cycled in a relaxed manner on an old railway line.

Picnic area by the River Lesse

Highlight • Rest Area

In 1978, the last cabotage convoy reached Jemelle station. The dismantling of the line ends in 1985, a RAVeL is installed instead. With the construction of the A4-E411 motorway, which crosses the line between Wanlin and Vignée, the embankment of the motorway crosses the railway without a bridge (an underpass has been planned for a motorable road parallel to the railway and that the RAVeL takes it to cross the motorway.
