A small narrow stream flows on this route to the Ourthe. The hiking trail meanders in the bed. Waterproof footwear is recommended to walk this hiking trail. Be aware that you have to bridge a few meters of altitude here.
A tough calf biter.

A pleasure to walk on this rough path along the Ourthe. Beautiful along the river, where you sometimes have to climb over rocks and obstacles. It is important to wear good walking shoes.

Le Hérou, a challenge for small and big heroes...

Reaching the highlight of the weekend as a family…
Packed and packed, we first get acquainted along a normal walking path with the rock ledge L'Hérou.
Nice views, boring according to our young heroes.
A new challenge awaits them…
To trigger the boys, we quickly descend to the valley of the Ourthe where they practice a game of pebbles on the water surface.

To end our adventurous walk in beauty, we decide as 'little and big heroes' to climb L'Hérou along a 'black hiking trail = almost via ferrata'.
Once we reached the highest and furthest point, everyone was tired but satisfied.
Time to go back home.
We all enjoyed 'our family weekend'.

Le Hérou Rock Formation

Highlight • Natural Monument

Le Hérou, a splendid and mysterious site, features particularly steep rocks and is home to some small nuggets in terms of hiking trails.

The view from Le Hérou or from the neighboring paths offers authentic landscapes of the Ourthe and its numerous wooded meanders. The entire site is classified Natura 2000.

August 10, 2024,Boucle Uitzichten op bos en de Ourthe – Le Hérou au départ de Maboge
Fabulous hike but much more technical and with some traps to manage with caution including passages on rocks and very steep ascent bridges with the only catch being the quality of the shoes, endurance
Some passages are also poorly marked
, scrupulous following of the map is recommended
Complete route not compatible with children

Fairly technical route along the Ourthe (slippery rocks, fallen trees). D+ important. Floating rocks barely visible given the high water level. Relatively busy passage to access the rock via the cable, we turned left at km 9.6 in order to avoid it.

Challenging but beautiful hike in the Ourthe valley near Maboge. The path along the water was also technically challenging, with rocky passages. Good practice for our Dolomite trek in three weeks 👍🏻

A great November day, partly on the Eisleck Trail around the Outhre around it and steeply up and down the slide. All narrow paths, over hill and dale. Demanding, fantastically GREAT.

We were able to enjoy a wonderful hiking area around the imposing rock massif Le Hérou above the river L'Ourthe in the most beautiful sunshine and 6-10 ° C. Thanks to Willem VS, who gave us the nice template for it!

The hike is added to our small Ostbelgien-Collection: komoot.de/collection/1347366/-ostbelgien-belgische-ardennen-wallonie

The Hike to le Hérou is not for everyone. If you suffer from fear of heights and you have difficulty climbing and scrambling, look for another hike. If you like the height, a spectacular descent along a chain of 60-80 meters and climbing over rocks and through the water, then this is the place for you. Really, this walk has …
Good morning,

Well, what can I say...... this is currently 2022 my absolute favorite in the vicinity of our home. 90% path share, grandiose views, climbing parts... and much more. We just loved the area and we will definitely come back. There are many campsites and canoeing is also possible everywhere.

Have fun!

Super hike done at 29 degrees but without feeling the heat because 90% is done in the forest or along the river. On the other hand, to do in good weather because some places can be slippery and dangerous in wet weather. (In places, climbs of 26%)
