But the castle was never built because the Duke died in 1608 shortly after it was founded in 1599. So the residence remained in Stuttgart and in Freudenstadt a large square in the city center.
At the four corners of the inner row of houses with the arcades, the facilities necessary for a city were built: the church (planned as a castle church and built on a corner because of the square floor plan of the planned city), police, administration (still the town hall today) and a hospital.
