Former Nordfeld Loading Ramp

Highlight • Historical Site

This is where the coal that was extracted from the tunnel mouth hole was loaded. After being transported out of the tunnel, it was transported to this loading station on a narrow-gauge cable car. Here it was automatically loaded onto the standard-gauge railway and transported to the Jägersburg station.
This former loading wall is now a listed building.

Whether it's a traditional loop like this one or a hiking multi-cache like last time, these loops are really fun. Even though the GPS was a bit erratic today, sometimes with deviations of more than 20 meters, we still managed to stay within a reasonable time. Although we sometimes lost a few minutes searching for the caches.

We hadn't seen each other for too long. Had a nice opportunity to explore the Nordfeld pit in the shady forest today. We took a lot of time to explore the old weathered buildings. And first of all, we had a hearty, delicious breakfast. That was a beautiful day Kalinche. I really missed you 🤗

Today, in ☀️ weather, I headed up the Höcherberg.

From the hiking car park, I walked past old boundary stones toward the former Nordfeld mining area. I took my first break at the Schacht Wilhelmine rest area 🫖🍪, then continued to the Diana spring and the historic loading ramp. What an impressive wall in the middle of the forest. 🤓

The first tour with the hiking group. The sky was grey, but hoar frost had formed in the forest, so the whole thing looked a bit appealing. The hiking trail sheds light on the development of mining on the Höcherberg at the end of the 19th century, which, however, had already ended at the beginning of the 20th century.

Anyone interested in mining around Höchen around 1900 will find interesting information on this tour.
