Wiesen Bridge, Schopfheim

Highlight • Bridge

The bridge west of the center of Schopfheim crosses the meadow. The around 40 meter long bridge was designed by Friedländer, an engineer from the Freiburg office Brenzinger & Cie. The execution took place in the years 1911 to 1912. It is 5.60 meters wide and about four meters high. A two-joint arch made of reinforced concrete serves as the main girder, which is raised in the middle as a parapet above the carriageway. With a span of 34.80 meters, the arch is 2.40 meters high, which is also unusual for modern conditions. To avoid bending, concrete joints were used on the fighters. These have a spiral reinforcement that was new for the time. The carriageway is supported by three-ply slab beams with cross ribs that rest between the main girders. On the right bank in the direction of the river, the bridge is widened on both sides for better traffic management. While the right bank is dominated by rocks and the bridge provides sufficient support, the foundation on the left bank had to be made 9.50 meters below the lane profile and thus three meters lower than planned. The sole was sawtooth-shaped for a secure foundation. Source: Wikipedia

Hirschen-Schillighof Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

"... for over 160 years our guests have been catered for in our almost 400-year-old inn. A very long time in which a lot has changed. Not so in our restaurant. The dining room is almost unchanged old floorboards and the old, very low wooden ceiling, which many a guest has hit their heads on. In addition, the old tiled stove at the regulars table is still used as the only heating in winter ... "

The description couldn't be better - just grubby! By the way, the schnitzels were big and tasty! And the sausage salad that was carried past us was a huge portion. The host also offers home-made schnapps and home-baked cakes on the weekends. Of course, you can also sit outside when the sun is shining.

This recirculation power plant with hydrodynamic screw generates an output of 190 kW with a usage gradient of 3.4 m and a design water volume of 8 m3/s. The average annual production is 1 million kW. After a two-year construction period, the power plant was put into operation in May 2019 by the two builders "Einricht Schweigert" and "Energiedienst AG Rheinfelden". In the course of the construction work, a completely new fish descent facility was built as an ecological compensation measure at the inlet of the commercial canal. A barrier in the industrial canal as a fine screen with a bar width of 15 millimeters and a fish descent channel ensure that the fish can safely pass through the new and existing power plant on the industrial canal

Schopfheim Old Town

Highlight • Settlement

Documented Schopfheim is mentioned for the first time in 807 in a document issued in Binzen as Scofheim. Around the year 1250 Konrad raised the 1st of Rötteln Schopfheim to the city. The economic power of the city grew. By awarding the salt monopoly and the right to hold three fairs, the economic power of the city has been significantly strengthened. In 1529, after the rule passed to the margraves of Baden, Schopfheim received the right to conduct its own seal. Already around 1770 founded deacon Friedrich Obermüller in Schopfheim a Latin school, in which later received the young Johann Peter Hebel lessons. This school developed over the higher citizen school to the Realschule and up to the today's high school. At the end of the Napoleonic wars, the Markgräfler Land landed in the newly formed Grand Duchy of Baden. On April 19, 1848, Friedrich Hecker stood on the balcony of the Schopfheimer Town Hall and addressed an appeal to the 800 gathered before Freischärler and Schopfheimer to join the led under him Baden Revolution. This historic event motivated the sculptor Peter Lenk, born in Nuremberg in 1947, to design the large sculpture erected on the side of the town hall, which was ceremoniously unveiled on October 3, 2004 (the "Day of German Unity"). Since the 01/01/1975 grew the district area of the city, after the incorporation of Fahrnau, Langenau. Raitbach, Enkenstein, Gersbach, Wiechs and Eichen, on 6 800 ha. Currently, the city has about 19,800 inhabitants
