Brasilien (Schönberg, Baltic Sea)

Highlight • Settlement

Once a fisherman found a rotten ship plank in the beach sand of the Baltic Sea, near his hut, with "California" written on it. He took the strange piece of wood home with him and without further ado nailed it to his front door.

It wasn't long before a competing fisherman who lived close by, but a little further east on the beach, discovered this "flashy" sign on his neighbor's door. "What you can do, I can do for a long time ...", this fisherman may have thought. He immediately reached into his firewood box and found a suitable log, on which he carefully brushed the word "Brazil".

From then on, his front door was marked with this sign and enviously admired by less creative contemporaries. And so it stayed with this exotic name. Finally, the names of the sections of Schönberg developed from this. The California beach section currently has 426 residents. Brazil only 19 inhabitants.

California Beach

Highlight • Beach

In which seaside resort is it possible to get from Brazil to California on foot in just five minutes?

Schönberg includes not only the central location but also the districts Neuschönberg and Holm as well as the beach sections Schönberger Strand, California and Brazil.

How it came to these original names of the two latter beach sections, is "passed" as follows ...

Once a fisherman found himself in the beach sand of the Baltic Sea, near his hut, a rotten shipwreck on which "California" stood. He took the weird piece of wood home and neatly nailed it to his front door.
It was not long before a rival fisherman living nearby, but a little further east on the beach, spotted this "swanky" sign on his neighbor's door. "What you can do, I have been able to do for a long time ...", this fisherman may have thought. He immediately reached into his firewood box and picked out a suitable log, on which he carefully painted the word "Brazil".

From then on, this sign had provided its front door and was envious of the less creative contemporaries. And so it was with this exotic name. Finally, the names of the sections of Schönberg developed from it. At present, the beach section California has 426 inhabitants. Brazil only 19 inhabitants.

Very good and scenic cycle path between Brazil and California. The path is paved throughout and wide enough to cope with the heavy cyclist traffic. There are also plenty of opportunities to take a short break at the bathing spots and watch the cruise ships and container ships coming and going.
