Saalebrücke Alsleben

The 154-meter-long Alsleben Saale Bridge is considered to be the first prestressed reinforced concrete arch bridge with subsequent bonding. It connects Alsleben on the left bank with the town of Mukrena on the right bank. A ferry initially operated at this point, but in 1867 it was replaced by a pontoon bridge. This was no longer able to cope with the increasing traffic, so in 1891 considerations began to be given to building a permanent bridge. However, this plan failed due to financing issues and was ultimately rendered obsolete by the First World War. It was not until 1927 that the town of Alsleben decided to build the bridge, and construction work began in mid-March 1928. The Saale Bridge was officially opened on December 20, 1928.
